On October 14th UK cinema-goers get the chance to “kick off their Sunday shoes” & see the 2011 remake of Footloose. Now, I have to admit to actually quite enjoying the original film which starred Kevin Bacon and I wasn’t too sure if I was going to be interested in a remake, but after seeing the trailer & realising that the director was responsible for Hustle & Flow & Black Snake Moan I began to get a little more interested in the prospect.

Writer/Director Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow,” “Black Snake Moan”) delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film, “Footloose.” Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont’s local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister’s troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

On one end of the scale you’ve got these almost prim and proper court shoes getting a bit of a face lift by taking the heels a little higher, the straps a little slinkier. The materials of patent leather, leather, suede and satin are still going strong, whilst faux reptilian leathers are being worked in as well. Embellishments like bows and buckles are overly large and anything but subtle this season.  

In contrast to the naughty librarian court shoes, the runway is also sporting incredibly dominating styles that look as if a dominatrix’s closet had been raided. Boots in all shades and fabrics have been given platform soles with extensive laces and sky-high heels. They’re sexy, challenging and very authoritative, whilst still appearing feminine.
